Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance." Diwali is one of the major festivals celebrated worldwide and usually lasts five days or six in some regions of India.
This year the festival of Diwali is on Monday, October 24. Diwali is a festival that is celebrated with great enthusiasm and grandeur.
Diwali is celebrated in many ways, by friends and family gathering to exchange gifts and give food and goods to those in need as well as creating colourful geometric patterns that are displayed in entrance ways, living rooms and courtyards using rice, paint, coloured sand or powder of flower petals.
Houses and yards are often lit with candles, recipes are exchanged, fine jewelry worn. People exchange gifts such as jewelry, treats, unique gifts, cookware, aroma diffusers, candles, candle holders, serving platters, potted plants ie., succulents, fireworks, clothes and more.
